In Memory of Kathleen Marie Hockenberry

Kathleen Marie Hockenberry, ASA, EA, MAAA, passed away Oct. 30, 2020. Beloved wife and mother, Hockenberry is survived by her husband Peter Berryman and daughter Kaitlin Berryman.

Hockenberry had a strong commitment to excellence and education and lifelong learning. She graduated as the sole valedictorian from Lorain High School and received her Bachelor’s degree from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill. Hockenberry also earned Master’s degrees from three institutions: Loyola University in Chicago (philosophy); The University of Iowa (statistics); and The Ohio State University (education).

Hockenberry was a member of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) for 27 years, she was an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), an Enrolled Actuary (EA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). She worked both as an actuarial consultant and as a staff actuary for several employers, including: Nationwide Insurance and the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits of the United Methodist Church. Hockenberry was a very active volunteer at the SOA and served as a grader for the Predictive Analytics exams, as a member of the Predictive Analytics Exam Committee, and was recently a member of the Community Engagement Strategy Work Group.

Hockenberry volunteer’s efforts extended to her church and her daughter’s schools, from elementary education to high school. She was an avid traveler and covered most of North America with her husband. In 1990 they ventured to Europe with a pilgrimage to the Passion Play at Oberammergau, Germany and a hiking tour of the Cotswolds in England.
