In Memory of David Weizenbaum

David (Dave) Weizenbaum, FSA 2000, MAAA 1992, died at age 64, on August 18, 2023 in Oceanside, NY, after a long hospitalization.

Born the oldest of three children to Sharon Kahn and Joseph Weizenbaum in Dayton, Ohio, Dave graduated from Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Arizona in 1977 and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1981. Dave worked as an actuary for over 40 years in the insurance field for a variety of employers, including GEICO, Union Labor Life Insurance, The Hartford, UnitedHealth Group, the State of Connecticut, ING, Hannover Life, and QBE, where he was employed at the time of his passing. He was a former president of the Actuarial Club of Washington, DC.

Dave’s friendly, open personality and deep loyalty were treasured by his many friends and family members across the years and throughout the United States. He loved good food and inspiring travel, especially for the chance to reconnect with old coworkers and buddies. Many of them have already shared memories of his patience, good humor and mentoring of new staff through the many technical challenges of actuarial work. The best way to honor Dave’s memory would be to have a great Italian meal with old friends and to befriend that new person in your office or community.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Rabbi Joseph Weizenbaum (Eileen) of Tucson, Arizona in 2013. He is survived by his mother Sharon Kahn, brother Jon Weizenbaum (Nancy), sister Suzanne Weizenbaum and niece Camille Weizenbaum, all of Austin, Texas and by niece Emma Weizenbaum (Sam), great nieces Emmy and Maya Ling and great nephew Everett Ling, of Watertown, Massachusetts.
