About the Award

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Spotlight Societal Purpose Award is dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary contributions of candidates, members, affiliates, and employers who are leaders in championing community involvement for positive purpose.

Awardees Announced October 27-30, 2024 (at the 2024 ImpACT Conference)

Eligibility and Criteria

To be eligible for each of the awards, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Member Spotlight Societal Purpose Award – Nominees must be an Individual SOA Member who has been nominated for their community efforts over the past 24 months.
  • Affiliate Spotlight Societal Purpose Award – Nominees must be an SOA Affiliate Member that has passed at least two SOA exams and has been nominated for their community efforts over the past 24 months.
  • Employer Spotlight Societal Purpose Award – Nominees must be an employer of at least two or more SOA members that have been nominated for community efforts organized through the employer over the past 24 months.

Any SOA member, affiliate member, or employer can nominate an individual or employer who is deserving.

Key Criteria

  • Makes strong use of actuarial talents, knowledge, and leadership with a focus on doing work with a societal purpose while improving financial, health, and/or retirement security.
  • Promotes strong community outcomes such as fostering improved well-being, increasing research, or the planning and future development of the community by focusing on financial, health, and/or retirement security outcomes.
  • Demonstrates strong participation and leadership through individual or organizational work, looking to make a significant impact with tangible benefits to the community.

Additional Criteria

  • Creates enhanced opportunities for community-based learning, services, and/or research activities.
  • Demonstrates long-term community engagement commitment that is measurable, relevant, and sustainable.
  • Advocates for community purpose ideas, helping to develop networks, resources, and activities within the community.
  • Creates ongoing community stakeholder engagement.

Nominations

Any SOA candidate, member, affiliate or employer can nominate an individual or employer who is deserving.

Nominations for this award open from April 21, 2024 through June 3, 2024.

Selection of Recipients

All nominations will be forwarded to the Society of Actuaries’ Spotlight Societal Purpose Awards Committee when you click on the Submit Button within the submission form. This committee is comprised of SOA volunteers and will review the submissions and select the recipients.

Recognition

Recipients will be announced in person at the 2024 ImpACT Conference, on the SOA website, in SOA News Weekly, and on social media.
