The Sightlines Project – Seeing Our Way to Living Long, Living Well in 21st Century America

The Society of Actuaries is pleased to make available research material from the Stanford Center on Longevity (SCL).  The SOA co-sponsored this report that reviewed the findings of eight national, multiyear studies of more than 1.2 million Americans conducted over two decades to assess how well Americans are aging in light of increased longevity.  Three areas critical to well-being as people age were identified: financial security, healthy living, and social engagement. Within each area, SCL pinpointed nine specific action steps people can take to improve their situation. The report concludes there are signs of progress, yet reasons to be concerned about the ways in which Americans are positioned for longer lives. The report also suggests that effective actions to address these issues can be beneficial.
