In Memory of James J. "Jim" Olsen

James J. "Jim" Olsen, FSA, MAAA, passed away on February 27, 2005 at the age of 88. Olsen was with Prudential Insurance Company for 43 years before retiring in 1979. He spent most of his career focused on individual health insurance, becoming somewhat of an expert. He co-authored with Ed Bartleson the paper Reserves for Individual Hospital and Surgical Expense Insurance, which is still a widely used reference. He devoted most of his retirement to his two passions, golf and bridge. Olsen is survived by his wife, Helene, and three daughters, Linda, Nancy and Cande. Cande is also an FSA.
