In Memory of John Wesley Wood, Jr.
John Wesley Wood Jr., FSA, a retired actuary for the U.S. Government Accountability Office, passed away on July 10, 2006. He was 75.
Wood became a fellow in the Society of Actuaries in 1965. His career included work at the S.M. Hyman Co. of Baltimore, which he joined in 1975. In 1989, he became an actuary with the U.S. Department of Labor and moved from there to the GAO, where he retired in 1996. He continued doing consulting work until a few years ago, including a stint as a consulting actuary with the U.S. House of Representatives.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Winifred Riddle Peterson; two sons, Charles E. P. Wood Sr. of Pasadena, Calif., and John W. Wood III of Owings Mills; two daughters, Margaret M. Wood of Amherst, N.Y., and Susan M. Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
