In Memory of John Boermeester
John Martin Boermeester, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, beloved husband of the late Marion (Graham) Boermeester, passed away on October 31, 2007. Boermeester was born July 16, 1910 in Amsterdam, Holland, son of the late Martin Boermeester and Anna Maria Noordholland. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1931, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Social Fraternity. He settled in the Boston area and began a career spanning 44 years at John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., retiring as vice president in the Actuarial Department. Boermeester was a Fellow and active contributor of the Society of Actuaries, authoring several published papers. During World War II he served as a member of the U.S. Navy's Operations Research Group dealing with submarine warfare.
Boermeester enjoyed playing the piano for most of his life. After retiring to Whispering Pines, North Carolina, he played with the Piney Pipers, a local choral organization. Since moving to Mount Pleasant, he became known as "The Music Man" at Cooper Hall at The Palms, where he lived and entertained residents regularly at social hours.
Surviving are his two daughters, Bonnie Boermeester of Brookline, Massachusetts and Ann Borelli and her husband, Colonel Raymond Borelli, U.S. Army Retired, of Mt. Pleasant; two grandsons, Dr. Matthew Hill of Seattle, Washington and Dr. Brian Hill of Chicago, Illinois; and three great grandchildren.
