Position Title: Staff Fellow, Actuarial Education

Position Summary
Under direction from the Senior Director of Education and the volunteer leadership, the Staff Fellow, Actuarial Education takes responsibility for facilitating the development and improvement of SOA courses and Education and Examination (E&E) programs. The Staff Fellow, Actuarial Education aids in E&E volunteer efforts to improve educational and evaluation approaches to ensure maintenance of high standards in both syllabus (content) and examinations. The Staff Fellow focuses efforts on the Preliminary; FSA and EA Examinations and Modules and performs special short term analyses relating to duties.

The core responsibilities for this position are listed below. Responsibilities associated with this job may change
from time to time in accordance with the SOA's business needs. Therefore, the incumbent may be required to perform
additional responsibilities from those set below.
- Recruits authors/editors as needed for existing courses in syllabus. Monitors status of projects related to syllabus
development. Reviews and recommends syllabus material in area of expertise. Reviews actuarial literature in area of
expertise to keep abreast of new developments. Manages development of relevant blueprints, catalog information, and
introductory study notes.
- Undertakes responsibilities listed in (1) above in respect to new areas or courses. Helps recruit volunteers needed
to staff content and examination committees. Acts as E&E liaison with practice area staff actuaries and appropriate Sections,
and with others interested in new developments and materials.
- Reviews and edits proposed examination questions. Participates in formal review at Pre–Review and Central Review.
Researches and resolves issues of defective questions arising from exam administration. Evaluates evidence relating to
allegations of cheating by candidates; renders opinions on strength of such evidence. Participates in setting examination pass marks.
- Communicates with academics on issues relating to the SOA E&E process and development of actuarial programs at colleges and universities.
- Participates in meetings of the E&E Executive Group, General Officers, and various E&E committees. Participates in
special E&E Task Forces addressing specific issues.
- Communicates with candidates on matters of concern to them. Relays significant concerns arising from such communication to ensure
that policies and practice have intended effect.
- Analyzes effects of proposed and enacted changes in E&E system. Recommends actions designed to maximize the benefits of such changes.
- Works to ensure good coordination between E&E and related Practice or Section Committee (s).
- Attends professional meetings to remain current in the areas of expertise.
- Serves as a resource for SOA staff members seeking information or guidance on E&E issues and activities.
- Assumes other responsibilities, as assigned by the Senior Director or Executive Director.

- Bachelor's degree required. Concentrations in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business or
related field preferred.
- FSA designation required
- Requires at least five (5) years experience in the actuarial field.
