Position Title: Staff Fellow, Health Systems
Reports to: Managing Director, Actuarial Marketplace Solutions
Position Summary
The staff fellow position is responsible for leading and guiding intellectual capital development within the health and long–term care areas of practice, in order to impact industry and advance the profession. The staff fellow also serves as a content consultant/advisor to the operational departments, ensuring that the SOA's programs, products and services are designed to address the knowledge, skills and abilities needed by health care/long–term care practitioners today and in the future. Success in the role will depend on thought leadership and content development, utilizing SOA market research, personal research, professional connections, relationships with key SOA volunteers, and visibility with external professional and industry groups.
Core Responsibilities
The responsibilities listed below represent the core duties of this position:
- Identify key areas of needed intellectual capital development (areas in which the knowledge base of the profession needs to be either deepened, expanded, or both) within the health/long–term care area of practice;
- Plan, lead and facilitate intellectual capital development through partnership with volunteers (primarily SOA sections) and external organizations, as needed, within the health/long–term care area of practice;
- Work with staff and volunteers in basic education to oversee and integrate health and long–term care content into the SOA's basic education system, primarily through contributions to the examinations, examination syllabi, modules, readings, and other materials used in the basic education process.
- Develop plans for integrating new intellectual capital developments into the SOA's operations (primarily basic education, continuing education, research, and marketing and communications).
- Serve as an internal consultant for the SOA's operational departments regarding content needs related to the health/long–term care area of practice. Regularly provide "gap analysis" to the operational departments between member needs and SOA programs, as well as recommendations for how any existing gaps may be addressed. Assist with the development of new, redesign and repositioning of existing programs/products/services related to health/long–term care.
- Serve as Staff Partner on content to the Health and Long–Term Care Sections, particularly to Section Chairs and Board of Director partners;
- Lead or support the research for content–based issues and the framing of related discussions within the context of the SOA's Strategic Management System;
- Participate in the implementation of organizational strategic initiatives (e.g. around opportunities for health care actuaries ); and
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- FSA with a strong professional track record and minimum of five (5) years experience in the actuarial profession;
- A minimum of one year experience in a health/long–term care (or related) role;
- Demonstration of management and leadership skill development (such as an MBA) preferred.
