Businesses are in need of more robust risk management processes in determining the interconnectivity of risks and the unintended consequences from their decisions, such as with the subprime mortgage issue and the resulting financial crisis. With centuries of experience in managing risk, actuaries are helping businesses navigate the financial, operational and emerging risks through enterprise risk management (ERM). This holistic approach offers a framework for effectively managing uncertainty, responding to risk and harnessing opportunities as they arise. In helping address risk management issues, the Society of Actuaries launched a new credential, the Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA).
