The Eighth Speculative Fiction Contest
Our Current Initiatives for 2009:
- Support the research work of the Project Oversight Group under the Pension
Section, which has been charged by the Issues Advisory Council of the SOA with
researching the market potential for personal actuaries in the retirement area.
This is an important initial step in determining the direction the Board of
Governors may take in providing support for personal actuarial work (similar to
the ERM initiative).
- Identify actuaries performing personal actuarial work.
- Continue sponsorship of sessions at SOA meetings and articles for SOA
publications, especially highlighting real examples of personal actuaries in
action.
- Explore possible synergies with initiatives of other sections such as the Entrepreneurial Actuaries
Section on business models for success and the Joint Risk Management Section for
parallels between Enterprise Risk Management and Personal Risk Management.
- Spearhead a "Financial Advice to the Middle and Lower Income Markets–Phase I" Request for Proposals to address advice issues pertaining to persons of moderate and low wealth. In Phase I, the primary object is to examine why it appears that appropriate financial advice is generally not available to this segment of the American public. For Phase II, the goal is to use what is learned from Phase I and explore alternative ways for providing such advice.
