January 11, 2009–Committee petitioned SOA Leadership to form a new section called Social Insurance and Public Finance.
March 16, 2009–Board granted permission to form a section. The committee had one year to obtain at least 200 pledges from SOA members to form the section.
March 23, 2009–SOA administration prepared to take pledges. Section advertising began.
June 1, 2009–201 SOA Members pledged. Section is formed. Council elections are held with SOA general elections.
