In Memory of Elizabeth “Betty” Berni, FSA
Betty Berni died of cancer in her home in Honolulu on July 15.
Betty was a native of Chicago. She graduated with a Master of Science in Mathematics from the Northern Illinois University and also attended the University of Arizona.
Betty’s actuarial career was spent at The Wyatt Company. She started in the Washington office in 1970 and then worked in the San Francisco office until moving to Honolulu where she became the first woman office manager at Wyatt. She practiced primarily in the retirement area and retired from Wyatt in 2006.
She was a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.
She served on the Board of Directors for the Conference of Consulting Actuaries and was a member of the Joint Program Committee for the Enrolled Actuaries Meeting. In Honolulu she was active in Rotary Club and United Way.
After a busy career Betty enjoyed her retirement – including travel. She will be missed by her fiancé, her five sisters, god-daughters and friends both in and out of the profession.
