APC Course Information

The Associateship Professionalism Course (APC) is part of the requirements for the Associate (A.S.A.) designation. The Associateship Professionalism Course is one-half day in length. The course covers professionalism, ethics and legal liability and makes extensive use of the case study method.

The SOA Board of Directors has approved the Canadian Institute of Actuaries' (CIA) Professionalism Course as a substitute for the APC. Therefore, Canadian candidates who attend the CIA course are not required take the SOA course. The CIA provides our Registrar with passing candidate data. To attain Associateship, the candidate must successfully complete the course requirements described below, and must have the Application for Admission as an Associate approved by the SOA Board of Directors.

Credit for all courses must be obtained by examinations offered by the SOA or by alternative methods approved by the BOD. In certain circumstances, course credit may be obtained by waiver for a candidate who has the examination credits in another actuarial organization.

Candidates are eligible to register for the APC once they have completed

  • Exams P, FM, M (both segments) and C
  • FAP Modules 1 through 5 and passed the Interim Assessment

Candidates are also eligible to register for the APC if they have credit for

  • FAP Modules 1 through 8, and all but one of the Preliminary Exams OR
  • All of the preliminary exams required for the CERA designation and credit for either the Advanced Finance/ERM exam or the CERA module.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the date of receipt of the registration form and payment of the registration fee. Registrations will be accepted on a space-permitted basis. It is recommended that candidates do not make hotel/travel arrangements until they receive a confirmation notice. Candidates will receive an email confirmation of registration approximately ten days after receipt of the registration form and payment.

The Registration fee for the course is USD 425.00

Course Times:

Course check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. The Associateship Professionalism Course begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Participants who are absent for more then 10 minutes will be required to repeat the entire course. In making travel arrangements, allow time for possible delays.

Course Materials:

Course materials will be distributed at registration.

Attire:

Business casual attire is appropriate for the program. However, as temperatures in meeting rooms may fluctuate, dressing in layers is suggested.

Cancellation Policy:

All enrollment cancellations must be made in writing. Please send a message to apc@soa.org in order to obtain a refund of the registration fee, minus a cancellation fee of USD 125.00.

The Society of Actuaries has the right to cancel any of the APC sessions if conditions warrant. In the event of such cancellation, registration fees will be refunded. The Society of Actuaries will not be held liable for any airline or other cancellation fees assessed attendees.
