The Society of Actuaries Offers Executive Track on Ethical and Responsible Use of Data and Predictive Models

Schaumburg, IL, December 7, 2022 ─ The Society of Actuaries (SOA) introduces a new Executive Track on the Ethical and Responsible Use of Data and Predictive Models. Designed for business leaders who work with data and artificial intelligence (AI), this new virtual course is based on the organization’s existing certificate program on this topic.

As developments with data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) become more widespread, the risk of bias increases, including adversely affecting professional and organizational reputations. The SOA created the executive track for business leaders who manage teams that generate data and AI-driven insights and for regulators overseeing AI systems. The curriculum focuses on how to examine, detect and mitigate bias in data and algorithms.

The virtual course for senior managers consists of six bundled e-learning modules that are available on demand, totaling 30 hours of material. Learning objectives include knowledge of ethical frameworks for evaluating data and analytics use cases and an in-depth understanding of the risks and implications of algorithmic bias and discrimination. Participants will also learn about tools that help assess a team’s understanding of the ethical issues surrounding the use of data and predictive analytics.

More specifically, program modules offer high-level training on these topics:

  • Ethical and responsible use of big data and predictive model
  • Regulation and ethical framework
  • Data analytics, modeling and its implementation
  • Approaches to governance
