What role do retirement accounts and insurance products play in wealth inequality pre- and post-bankruptcy in Washington, DC, in 2011? This report takes an empirical look at how facially neutral bankruptcy laws may contribute to disparate outcomes for presumed Black/African American and white debtors and may therefore play a role in perpetuating wealth inequality across these groups.
